LA1S /lh - Obrestad Lighthouse NOR 034 - 21 / 22 august 2004After quite a few years with no lighthouse activity the Stavanger club in 2004 decided to mobilise for the August weekend using the club call sign LA1S equipped with /lh. The Obrestad lighthouse (NOR 034) was considered a good spot, however with no past HF radio experience from this location, we were eager to get started and test the conditions out there. LA5WBA-Rolv and LA6UKA-Kjell provided the equipment and installed two stations for parallel operation: i) Icom IC-746 w/ 4 ele. yagi for 10, 15 and 20 m ii) Yaesu FT-890, TenTec roller inductor tuner, Collins PA 500 W and Zepp antenna for 10-80 m
Rolv and Kjell stayed from Friday to Sunday and were accompanied by other club members throughout the weekend. With dull weather outside, radio conditions and indoor conditions were all the better. Except for heavy 80m QRN caused by rain showers, the conditions turned out to be excellent. We enjoyed 59+ reports from all over Europe, strong signals from other continents and periods with simultaneous pile-ups on two radios!
Rolv made a great effort by taking turns to transfer paper logs to his laptop computer, and the final results turned out as:
Operators were LA5WBA, LA6UKA, LA5IP and LA6HL With limited planning and a social gathering being the main objective, we were very pleased with the outcome also radiowise. We will remember this great weekend at the North Atlantic shoreline also by good company from visiting co-operators and other members who dropped in and contributed the extra that made this a highly enjoyable event.
